About
Zach Holmes
My
Photography
I
have been an active photographer since 1992 and have been
publishing my photographic work since 1997.
During that time I have documented on film a broad
range of subjects ranging from adventure sports and
wildlife to environmental concerns and cultural heritage.
I constantly seek out new ways to show the beauty
of the natural world and man’s place in it.
In this pursuit I push the limits of my equipment
and film and challenge my preconceived ideas about light,
the environment and photography.
I
don't believe that it is possible to successfully create
images that capture the essence of a location or activity
by simply being an observer.
You must become an active participant in a scene to
truly convey its emotion on film.
My
Background
Prior
to becoming a full-time nature and travel photographer, I
spent 8 years with the U.S. Army Airborne Rangers as a
Squad Leader and Mountaineering Instructor. I have
also worked as a Program Manager for Microsoft Corporation,
a professional raft guide and an alpine climbing guide.
